Our push for more of those yellow flashing lights around town continues to bear fruit.
We began advocating for a pair of the lights, turned on by walkers, runners and cyclists with a touch of a button, at the corner of Clarksville Road and Norchester Road in 2022. These Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, or RRFBs, would create safer access to the walking paths in Ron Rogers Arboretum, we said.
In early 2024, we followed up with a similar request to Mercer County given that Clarksville Road is a county road.
We are pleased to report that West Windsor Township and Mercer County worked together to get these installed in the last few weeks. We thank them for this.
We have been advocating for more RRFBs in many parts of the township, and we know the township is working to get more installed in the coming months, particularly near schools. You may recall that we successfully urged our elected officials to budget more money for these lights. (They put it in the capital budget for crosswalk improvements rather than a separate line item, but we were thrilled with the decision to allocate $100,000 on crosswalks in this fiscal year rather than the usual $20,000.)
