The West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance supports the Berrien City Neighborhood Association’s requests for a number of improvements to slow traffic and increase safety for all road users.
As the neighborhood association noted, many drivers do not stop for pedestrians at the crosswalks and many drive over the speed limit.
The WWBPA supports the request to reduce the 30 mph speed limit on Alexander Road between Princeton Hightstown Road/Route 571 and the Crawford Woods to 25 mph, in keeping with the limit on much of the road. It also agrees with the need for more pedestrian-activated rapid-flashing yellow lights (known as RRFBs), beyond the 6 already funded by West Windsor Council, and additional crosswalks.
Longer term, the WWBPA agrees that traffic-calming road designs are needed to effectively get drivers to slow down and stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. The WWBPA also agrees that the speed table at the intersection with Scott Avenue does not fulfill its intended purpose, as it does not slow traffic, and that it should be reviewed as part of determining how to improve the safety of that intersection.
