Mercer County plans to lower speed limits on sections of Clarksville Road and Old Trenton Road, a move recently endorsed by West Windsor Township Council and applauded by the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance.
These changes would include creating 25 mph school zones, including flashing lights, in front of WW-P High School South and Thomas Grover Middle School on those roads.
The current speed limits were established before 1974 on Clarksville Road and before 1982 on Old Trenton Road, well before the growth in development and vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic in the area. The county hopes to have the new speed limits in place by the end of the year.
The speed limit on Clarksville will drop to 40 mph from 45 mph from Quakerbridge Road to 950 feet west of Blue Jay Way in the Princeton Terrace neighborhood, then to 35 mph from 40 mph to where the current 35 mph zone starts east of North Post Road. The 35 mph zone will continue until just west of Landing Lane, where the speed limit will be lowered to 30 mph all the way to Cranbury Road.
West Windsor also is working with Mercer County to install a pedestrian crosswalk and pedestrian-activated flashing lights (rectangular rapid flashing beacons, or RRFBs) on Clarksville Road at the intersection with Norchester Drive. This had been requested by the WWBPA.
Along Old Trenton Road, the big change will be a reduction in the speed limit to 35 mph from 50 mph from 1,000 feet north of Bear Creek Boulevard to just south of Princeton Hightstown Road/County Road 571.
Please slow down and obey the new speed limits.

Would be nice if Old Trenton Road
Was patrolled down as far as the community college.
Drive it every day and most people are going about 60mph.
Haven’t see a car pulled over on Old Trenton in the last
20 years!!!
