Thanks to all who supported the WWBPA’s bike drive on Saturday in support of Bike Exchange and the Boys & Girls Club. We collected 29 bikes of all sizes plus one indoor bike trainer and some bike gear.
And that wasn’t all we did!
On Sunday, we gathered more than two dozen Martians on bikes to mark the 86th anniversary of the War of the Worlds radio broadcast that thrust the Grover’s Mill section of West Windsor into the national spotlight.
Our invading force of intrepid Martians embarked on a 9-mile journey from Grover’s Mill Coffee House to a number of Martian sites in West Windsor, including the sculpture by the Arts Council and the “landing” site.
As a special treat, we were welcomed onto a property where an old water tower was mistaken that night for a long-legged Martian. It took a bullet but remains standing.
Special thanks to the Historical Society of West Windsor for co-organizing this event, to Grover’s Mill Coffee House for its support and the free coffee, and to the West Windsor Recreation Commission’s own Park Martian. Congratulations to one of our riders who won a War of the Worlds print from local artist Robert Hummel.
Due to the number of people who registered for this group ride, we did have to close registration early. If you wanted to join us and couldn’t, be sure to sign up early next year.
