The WWBPA stands with area residents in their requests for a number of safety improvements to Rabbit Hill Road and the surrounding area following the recent pedestrian fatality there.
In particular, we ask the West Windsor Township administration and Council to install rapid-flashing pedestrian beacons (RRFBs) at the intersection of Rabbit Hill Road and Abbington Lane/Bennington Drive as quickly as is practical. The rapid-flashing beacons installed elsewhere in town, like the one pictured above on Southfield Road, have made motorists much more aware of people in the crosswalk.
We have a number of other recommendations detailed in this letter. Among them is a request to set aside $60,000 a year for RRFBs in the annual capital budget, similar to standing line items for sidewalk repairs, new sidewalks, and bike lanes. Even with that money, we recognize it will take the township many years to install all the RRFBs needed in town.
In the meantime, we thank the Township for installing the 40 mph speed-limit signs. Township Council approved the lower speed limit for much of Rabbit Hill Road in September.
