The West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance congratulates the five winners of its annual scholarship competition. Entries can come from all high school juniors and seniors who live in West Windsor or Plainsboro and attend West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North or South or are West Windsor residents who attend an area private school or are home-schooled.
We thank all entrants for their efforts to make the area better for thosel who walk and bike and for encouraging more people to bike.
This year’s winners are:
Ananya Devpura for her essay on how she incorporated bicycling into her daily routine. Ananya spent a summer bike commuting instead of driving, then encouraged her friends to accompany her on longer, recreational rides in the area. By using routes with bike lanes and emphasizing the social aspect of the rides, she convinced more friends to join her.
Jeffrey Yuan for his video on encouraging others to bicycle. Jeffrey emphasized the benefits of cycling and helped others with bicycle maintenance.
Carlton Cummings for his video on encouraging others to bicycle. As a senior patrol leader during the first year of the pandemic, Carlton organized a 10-mile bike ride for younger Boy Scouts.
Kiko Yoshihira for her essay on bicycling and walking to high school. With careful observation of her own route to school, Kiko provided safety tips to other students to encourage them to leave the car at home.
Kevin Song for his video on the joys of bicycling. Kevin aimed to show that bicycling is a viable means of transportation in West Windsor to encourage his friends to bike more.
