Previous announcement:
Maurice Hawk Elementary School in West Windsor will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 7, 2009.

Two groups of students, their parents, and staff, along with members of the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance (WWBPA), will converge Maurice Hawk Elementary School. One group will walk the route established in previous years, from the Township Municipal Center to the school. The other group will form a Walking School Bus, traveling from North Mill Road to the school. The Walking School Bus is a new addition to the Walk to Hawk program.

Walk to School events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment, and building connections between families, schools, and the broader community.

In 2008, International Walk to School Day included approximately 3,000 schools from all 50 states in the U.S. Walkers from the U.S. joined children and adults in 40 countries around the world.

The Walk to Hawk event is being organized by the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance (WWBPA), a not-for-profit organization promoting access, mobility, and safety for bicyclists and pedestrians within West Windsor Township and to other communities.
